Ramadan in the hostel

Assalamualaikum!

It's finally Ramadhan again and I feel so blessed to be able to go through fasting again this year! I waited so long for this time of the year but Ramadan this year is somewhat different.

As you all may or might not know, I'm a Foundation student in MMMC. It's a medical college where Malays are the minorities here which I'm not saying is a problem, but it's a change of phase. Most of my life I've been studying in places where roughly most of them are Muslims but this year it's been a different experience. The first thing that went into my mind when Ramadhan was approaching is, where do I get food? Normal days I would usually cook simple dishes or anything but I just didn't feel like it this time. There are food cafeterias within the hostel grounds but I wanted something out of the normal.

So, I thought that yeah maybe I would go to the bazaar for food, and turned out that we went to the bazaar EVERY DAY. Well almost every day. The food was so good but I can't help but think, 'I got to enjoy Ramadan here as much as I can because next year it won't be the same'.  So I basically had kebab, nasi goreng kampung, nasi kukus ayam berempah, nasi ayam kunyit, bomboloni, onde-onde, tauhu begedil, and a lot more but these are among my favorites.

There were a few days where we bought groceries and cooked everything from scratch. It was such a memorable experience and it was so fun. We almost turned on the fire alarm because we burnt the cooking oil and the pantry got all smokey. Food was delicious and made me miss home even more.

There was also one time where we went out to eat with a few lecturers at Restoran Melayu Melaka, and honestly it was so great hanging out with the lecturers. I learned so many new things from them just by having a normal conversation especially with the lecturers who are cancer survivors. It was so heartwarming

Well, that's about it for now, it's almost the end of Ramadan as next week would be Raya. I hope next year would be and even more fun and an eye-opening experience for me.
